Palo Alto, California-based Hewlett Packard is said to be planning the release of another version of its Intel-based Pavilion dv6t laptop, one that is designed to take advantage of the computing power of an AMD-based platform. The upcoming portable computer system should be released later today, according to the details made available by an online reseller. Unfortunately, there are no details currently available on the
system's technical specifications.
According to
this site, the new Pavilion dv6z will be released today, March 25, with a starting price tag of US$599.99, which will go down by US$30 with a coupon. The system is said to boast a 16-inch display, will be based on an AMD platform and will become available in the default color, Expresso Black, or the US$25 Moonlight White color upgrade. In addition to that, users will also receive a Free HP DeskJet Printer after a US$70 mail-in rebate.
Unfortunately, aside from the aforementioned details, the technical specifications of the upcoming Pavilion laptop are unknown at this time. However, it will be interesting to see how the performance of the new system will scale to that of the Intel-based Pavilion dv6t, which is powered by the Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz T6400 processor and comes with 2GB of DDR2 memory. There's also the issue of the TPD level on the upcoming AMD-based system, especially since there are some reports on the Internet according to which AMD-based laptops have a tendency to overheat, especially when they are required to run performance-demanding applications.
One of the strong points of the new laptop is its price tag, which roughly puts it in the category of low-power netbooks, known for their considerably smaller displays and low performance. However, the upcoming Pavilion dv6t will certainly not compete in the aforementioned segment, as it will likely provide a better performance per price ratio.
