The new gaming device will probably be made available for sale soon

Back in June, when @evleaks was still active and leaking hot stuff across the web, news of HP working on a gaming laptop of its own surfaced for the first time online.

Fast forwards two months later and we’re finally able to give you some more information about the product. As Notebook Italia reports, we even have a name for this new gaming piece of collection.

It’s called the HP Omen 15 (HP Omen 15-5000na) and is the first in the line to come out of the American company. HP is widely known to provide professional and business solutions, but back in 2006 when the device maker acquired Voodoo PC subsidiary, we saw an attempt at penetrating the gaming environment, as well.

But the idea didn't take off, and by 2009 HP had already abandoned the Voodoo PC project altogether and continued to focus on what it did best.

A new beginning for HP's gaming business

However, the company seems to have remained nostalgic with the Voodoo line, as the new Omen 15 laptop is quite reminiscent in design to the family mentioned above.

Anyway, the Omen 15 will be offered in black and the customary red LED backlit keyboard. The speakers are positioned at the bottom of the machine, in order to prevent users from covering them with their wrists / hands.

The touchpad brings some Spectre vibes, being rectangular with two Control Zones on the side. Judging by the first images detailing the device, HP has managed to build an ultra-slim device which makes one think of Ultrabooks.

That might have been possible due to the fact that all ports (USB, HDMI, power connector, Ethernet, headphone jack) now reside on the back side. The laptop also takes advantage of Beats Audio and might be one of the last products coming out of HP to actually do so.

Internal specifications are quite competitive

As for technical details, the HP Omen 15 will rely on a quad-core 2.29GHz Intel Core i7-4712HQ (Haswell) processor fitted with up to 16GB of RAM and working with a 256GB SSD.

Like the name suggests, the display has a diagonal of 15.6-inch and delivers full HD resolution (1920 x 1200), which is in league with what Lenovo’s latest Y70 Touch gaming machine offers, but below the industry’s standard.

In the GPU department, the report doesn't offer any specifics, but we already know we should see the laptop arrive with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M graphics card.

The spec list is completed by 802.11n Wi-Fi module, Bluetooth and WiDi. According to the first retail listings, the device will be marketed for around £ 1,499 / €1,890 / $2,446 but will likely cost less when it arrives in the US.
