14 DAY TRIAL // The gaming laptop market is apparently growing up to be quite a competitive and productive niche, as more and more companies are looking to introduce notebooks belonging to this category.
And HP is one of these newcomers looking to join players like MSI, Razer and Alienware in the quest of producing the best gaming notebook on the market.
So HP has resurrected its sleeping Voodoo line of gaming PCs by rolling out a new gaming laptop called the Omen 15.
The company is mostly known for its professional and business solution, but way back in 2006 it also acquired the Voodoo PC subsidiary, thus attempting to penetrate the gaming ecosystem as well.
Anyway, the HP Omen 15 is currently up for grabs for the price of $1,499 / €1,198 which is in league with most gaming notebooks on the market.
HP Omen 15 gets dissected
Well, if the HP Omen 15 sounds good to you, you might also be curious to see what the notebook looks like inside.
The curios folks over at My Fix Guide have taken the notebook apart revealing the contents lying under the hood.
The first thing that gets removed is a 15.2v, 58wh li-polymer battery that comes from LG. Immediately below lies the wireless card Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-7260, which is held together by a single screw and a bunch of cables.
A wide adhesive strip partially conceals the Samsung SSD 512GB. A group of screws maintains an active cooling system, made up of two fans and a heat pipe, in position. We also get to view the motherboard, CPU, GPU and RAM.
Judging by the images, removing all these internal parts seems quite easy, but do not be fooled. The unpredictability of these operations is a great one. Actually, the only components that are really truly replaceable are the battery, wireless adapter and solid state drive.
HP Omen gaming notebook spec roundup
For those of you who don’t remember, the HP Omen comes with a 15.6-inch display boasting 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The notebook takes advantage of an Intel Core i7 quad-core processor fitted with 8GB of RAM and supported by 128GB SSD.
In the GPU department, we find the previous-generation NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860 GPU with 2GB of RAM (which is not even top of the line); you can find the same with the Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition.
The Omen also comes equipped with 4 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, a mini DisplayPort, plus a headphone/microphone jack combo. The battery you see in the teardown photos will maintain a life cycle of 4.5 hours of regular use.
