HP may have said it wants to back out of the PC segment, but its enterprise presence is still strong, as proven by its most recent press announcement, which deals with virtualization.

Virtualization is a sort of data center implementation that has been gaining traction fairly quickly over the past few months.

Unfortunately, there are some issues it is faced with, such as inflexible storage, unpredictable workloads, security concerns, multitier network architectures, virtual sprawl, etc.

HP seeks to address these problems via the HP VirtualSystem for VMWare, which aims to speed up implementation and serve as a foundation for cloud computing.

“Virtualization has become mainstream for clients, but there are obstacles to broad deployment,” said Paul Miller, vice president, Systems and Solutions, Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking, HP.

“With HP VirtualSystem for VMware, clients can simplify and scale their virtualization deployments to provide a clear path to the cloud.”

One thing it does is enhance virtual server operations and alert IT administrators, in addition to enabling remote management, through the HP Insight Control for VMware vCenter Server.

Additionally, capacity requirements can be slashed by up to half, since machine density can be doubled, thanks to HP LeftHand and HP 3PAR Storage Systems.

Mobility is also improved (up to 40%), while network performance also rises thanks to HP FlexFabric.

“Companies need solutions that enable them to move from siloed stacks of infrastructure to pools of technology resources that can be shared and delivered as application services in real time,” said Gary Green, vice president, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware.

“HP VirtualSystem for VMware helps customers streamline their virtualization projects today and transition to cloud computing in the future.”

The starting price of HP VirtualSystem for VMware is $167,300, including factory integration, three years HP Support Plus 24 and the HP Converged Infrastructure.
