The slate is one of the cheapest Intel devices on the market today

Before Black Friday, we brought you news that HP was exclusively launching a budget tablet at Walmart just in time for the holiday weekend, dubbed Mesquite.

During the much-hyped period, the slate was up for purchase for a meager $89 / €65, but after the shopping spree ended, the slate remains on the retail giant’s shelves.

When the promotion was announced on the Intel blog, we didn't really have an idea about what the slate is going to pack, but now the veil has been lifted off.

Even if this is an HP slate, don’t expect anything mid-range features. The tablet comes equipped with a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Life comes from a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2640 Medfield processor coupled with 1GB of RAM.

There’s only one camera offered, a 0.3MP frontal snapper with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Mesquite runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and is said to provide only 5 hours of battery life.

The tablet currently sells for $99 / €73 at Walmart; but if you save a little, you’d probably be able to get something better like the Google Nexus 7. Nevertheless, if you have your heart set on an Intel-powered device but don’t want to spend too much in the process, this offer is worth looking into.
