This week HP has managed to extend its offer of workstation products, with the addition of three new and exciting HP ZBook laptops dubbed “mobile workstations,” all from the HP Z Workstation line. The rock star of the trio is undoubtedly the HP ZBook 14, which was been dubbed “the world’s first workstation Ultrabook.”

The HP Z bunch was launched targeting exigent customers like professionals working in engineering, design, CAD, architecture and more. As Vice President and General of the Commercial Solution Business Unit at HP, Jim Zafarana explained:

“Professional customers rely on trusted partners to provide technology solutions that are tested and certified for the mission-critical application the run. The HP Z subbrand has become a hallmark for professional products engineered to the highest standards – the expansion of the Z portfolio demonstrates HP’s commitment to the professional market that may other vendors have abandoned.”

Going back to the laptops, workstation is the word HP has used to advertise its high-end line of portable computers which have premium desktop PC features.

The three new babies are all lighter and thinner and ship with Haswell-based Intel processors, but the ZBook 14 will certainly be the one to receive the most attention of the bunch, especially since it has been advertised as an “Ultrabook.”

The Z 14 is surely a successful merger of productivity, powerful specks and mobility. The device will offer consumers a 14-inch LED backlit SVA eDP anti-glare display. And it’s available for use in two different modes: the traditional one, where you need your keyboard to do things, and the touch screen one.

The Zbook 14 also runs on Intel HD graphics 4400, discrete AMD FirePro M4100 with AMD Dynamic Switchable graphics on top of that.

There are more impressive feats hidden under the hood – DDR3L SDRAM at 1600 MHz in combination with 2 SODIMMS at 16 GB max.

Customers can choose their preferred plan for internal storage, and they really have what to opt for. The largest offer consists in a SATA (5400 rmp) at 1 TB. The others – SATA, SATA SED, SATA FIPS 140-2 SED (5400 rmp), SATA SDD, SATA SE SSE and M.2 SSD – mostly come in combination with about 500GB.

For those interested in what HP has to offer and would like to own one of the first workstation Ultrabook, you should keep in mind that the final price hasn’t been set yet, but we do know that HP will make it available somewhere around the end of October.
