Hewlett Packard, one of the world's leading vendors of computer systems, has recently announced the expansion of its server portfolio with the introduction of the new Extreme Scale-Out (ExSO) series, designed to meet the performance and energy-efficiency requirements of business users. Designed to take advantage of the company's ProLiant SL server family, the new ExSO portfolio is bound to provide users with enhanced performance and support for the latest advancements in Web 2.0, cloud and high-performance computing.

“Customers with scale-out business models need solutions that make every dollar, watt and square foot in the data center count,” said Christine Reischl, senior vice president and general manager, Industry Standard Servers, HP. “The HP ProLiant SL offers pioneering customers like these the most significant design innovation since the blade form factor, allowing them to achieve an economy of scale never before possible.”

According to the Palo Alto, California-based company, the new ExSO can help its customers reduce costs, enhance facility efficiency and significantly improve the time to market. The solution is designed to benefit from the performance capabilities of the company's ProLiant SL server family, which includes the SL2x170z, SL160z and SL170z G6 servers, all of which are built using Intel's latest generation of Xeon 5500 Nehalem-based processors.

Thanks to a modular configuration feature, these new servers can provide for up to 10TB of storage capacity and 672 processor cores in a standard 42U rack of ProLiant SL6000 scalable system servers. In addition, the metal used for the ProLiant SL server decreases their weight by 31 percent, thanks to the adoption of the new ultra-lightweight design.

Adding more value to the customer's purchase, these new ExSO server environments are accompanied by a series of services that include on-site repair options, on-site seed inventory of parts and installation services to help the customer better implement the hardware solutions.
