HP has just introduced a new high-performance thin client and a new blade workstation in the form of the gt7725 Thin Client and the HP ProLiant xw2x220c Blade Workstation. The just released systems have been specifically designed to meet the requirements of virtualization customers, offering them a true workstation experience that combines the security, ease of management and a lower total cost of ownership of a thin client system.

“The maturation of virtualization technologies, in combination with the reality of today’s business environment, has made the security, manageability and flexibility benefits of adopting client virtualization increasingly attractive to business customers,” said Roberto Moctezuma, vice president and general manager, Desktop Solutions Organization, HP. “This latest technology from HP removes one of the last remaining barriers to transitioning to a virtual client infrastructure for customers who require the highest levels of processing power or high-quality multimedia capabilities.”

In terms of specifications, the new HP gt7725 Thin Client has been equipped with an AMD Turion Dual-Core processor, running at 2.3GHz, which, combined with AMD's RS780G integrated graphics solution, should provide the full blade workstation experience in a small form factor. The integrated graphics solution has multi-display support that allows users to connect as many as four displays for a maximized desktop working space. In addition, the company claims that its new Thin Client delivers an advanced system performance that is achieved through configured dual channel memory.

The xw2x220c Blade Workstation combines the computing power achieved by Intel's Xeon processors with the graphics capabilities of NVIDIA's FX 770M graphics card to deliver the required performance level. The ProLiant Blade Worskstation, as well as the gt7725 Thin Client, is delivered with the HP Remote graphics software, a network utility that is designed to take full advantage of the computing and graphics power of HP's systems.

Price-wise, the gt7725 is expected to become available worldwide in January next year, for a US list price of $740, while the HP ProLiant xw2x220c Blade Workstation is expected to go on sale on November 17 for $2,850.
