Now if only there were a picture of it, but alas there is none

HP tried and failed to enter the 3D printing industry once so far, by seeking a deal with Stratasys (which fell through). It still wants in though, by 2014 if it has anything to say about it, and a report from Wired suggests that it could really come to pass.

HP granted Wired writer Robert McMillan a tour of its labs, which included a sighting of a five-foot tall (1.52 meters) machine made from large metal printing parts and some custom-built equipment.

HP didn't talk about it though, and forbid the snapping of any photos. Clearly, it wants to hold off until next year for this.

It's understandable really. If you're going to join a new market, better have something good looking the first time you show off your plans.

HP's 3D printer will create things out of a specially designed polymer.
