HP's been teasing its Slate tablet for quite some time now, but it would seem that the company has decided that it's about time to finally go official with this 8.9-inch device that runs Windows 7 and targets the enterprise segment, the portable system providing plenty of interesting features, including the possibility to run corporate apps.

Much has been said about the HP Slate over these past few months, and by the looks of it, much of it is true.

So, the HP Slate 500 Tablet PC (this is the full, official name) comes packed with an 8.9-inch capacitive multi-touch display (1024 x 600 pixels resolution) that allows users to navigate on the screen with the touch of a finger or with the HP Slate Digital Pen and Evernote software to handwrite e-mail messages and take notes easily.

The integrated VGA webcam on the front of the HP Slate 500 Tablet PC enables video conferencing, while the 3MP camera on the back can be used for still-image and video capture.

Plus, with Wi-Fi CERTIFIED WLAN, users can send and receive e-mails or access the internet at work, at home, and favorite hotspots.

The tablet also packs an SD card slot on one side, plus an USB 2.0 connector on the top side, as well as a "Ctrl+Alt+Del" combo key, whose purpose is quite obvious for most Windows users out there.

On the inside, the HP Slate 500 provides pretty much exactly the components that were rumored up until now, such as an 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor accompanied by 2GB of RAM, 64GB SSD and Broadcom's Crystal HD accelerator for handling 1080p video.

Also confirming previous rumors, the tablet is accompanied by the HP Slate Dock, a docking station that, beside charging the device, also packs a HDMI interface for Full HD video output onto a widescreen TV.

Pricing for the new HP Slate 500 Tablet PC has been set at a cool 799 US dollars, so it remains to be seen whether this will prove to be interesting enough for anyone, whether we're talking about the corporate users or non-corporate ones.

P.S. In order for you to get a better idea of what this thing can do, we've also attached a short presentation video provided by HP.
