Expected to start selling in the US at the start of December, HP’s first ultra-thin computer based on Intel’s Ultrabook concept, the Folio 13, won’t reach Europe until January of 2012 when will retail for €899.

The price and availability info was uncovered by Notebook Italia, and it refers primarily to the Ultrabook’s launch in Italy, but this data should still hold true for the rest of the EU countries to get the Folio 13.

As I am sure that most of you have noticed, the €899 ($1,209) price asked by HP for the Folio 13 is quite a great deal larger than that of the US version of this ultra-thin ($899), but it’s still under that of the Asus UX31 which starts at €999.

Speaking of technical specs, the Folio 13 is built around a low-power 1.6GHz Core i5-2467M processor with dual computing cores which is seconded by 4GB of system memory and a 128GB mSATA SSD.

Power is provided by a six-cell battery that HP states it can last for up to 9 hours, which should make the Folio 13 quite an interesting option if it can deliver on this promise.

All of this hardware is fitted inside an 18mm (0.7 inches) thick chassis weighting 3.3 pounds (1.49Kg) that also includes the 13.3-inch BrightView display with a native resolution of 1366x768 pixels.

The port selection is also fairly robust with USB 3.0, HDMI, Ethernet, and USB 2.0, while a memory card reader and a combined headphone/mic jack round up the list.

Another cool feature to be added by HP to the Folio 13 is the inclusion of a backlit keyboard, an option that has been lacking on most Ultrabooks launched until now apart for Toshiba’s Portege Z830/Z835.

The HP Folio13 also can be configured with a range of Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems, including Windows 7 Professional.
