Wider availability of Broadwell products is scheduled for 2015

Intel talked about its new Broadwell chip platform back at Computex 2014, where it said that the architecture would be embedded in 2-in-1 tablet/laptop hybrid systems, which would be incredibly light and thin. The chip giant also teased us with some reference models.

Well, some of these upcoming models appear to have started to emerge at select retailers. As Mobile Geeks reports, German website WinFuture spotted a listing of the yet-unannounced products HP Envy 13 x2 and HP Envy 15 x2.

Naturally, this means the HP Envy 13 x2 will be offering a 13.3-inch screen while the Envy 15 x2 comes with a 15.6-inch display. Both machines seem to be equipped with Windows 8.1 out of the box and to be taking advantage of Intel Core 5y10 M Broadwell processors.

It seems that there isn't a big difference between the two versions as both products will ship out with 4GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet and Microsoft’s latest OS.

Some models will be marketed with 128GB solid state drives and others might be outfitted with 500GB hard drive with solid state cache.

Since HP Envy 13 x2 and 15 x2 are going to be some of the first models to arrive with Broadwell, they won’t come cheap. The European versions will apparently be marketed for €829 / $1,088 and €899 / €1,180 respectively.

The new products are teased in a couple of images, so we can get a pretty good idea of what HP is trying to do here. Basically, they are perusing a design some of you might already be familiar with, since the advent of Microsoft’s Surface family.

You’ll notice that the keyboard cover is secured with the help of a magnetic strip located on the tablet itself.

We don’t have confirmation for this, but the new hybrids might also be offered with a smart stylus of some sort. Anyhow, the upcoming machines do seem to be quite sleek (especially the keyboard part).

Intel said that select Broadwell products could be making an appearance in retail as soon as this holiday season. However, the majority of products taking advantage of the company’s new design will make a debut in 2015.

We are not sure which category the new HP Envy x2 hybrids belong to, but if we’re lucky enough, the company might put them on display for us to behold at IFA 2014, which has just started today in Berlin.
