Intel talked about the first batch of Core M tablets and laptops a while back, promising that some of these machines will be available for pickup in time for the holiday season. So, as expected, the first devices running on Intel’s new architecture have started making an appearance.

The HP Envy x2 13 is your usual 2-in-1 device. It consists of a tablet coming with a spacious 13-inch display, that is offered with a detachable keyboard dock, so customers can use it as a laptop too.

The tablet takes advantage of a Core M chip, which is the first out the door from Intel’s 5-gen Broadwell batch. These processors are low-power models aimed to power premium tablets and notebooks with a long battery life and a fanless design.

As we have seen, not all machines equipped with Core M chips are necessarily fanless. For example, the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro has a tiny fan inside, which is there to sustain Turbo Mode.

The HP Envy x2 13 will arrive with a 13.3-inch display of the HD variety (1366 x 758 pixels) and relies on an Intel Core M-5Y10 clocked at 800 MHz with a Turbo speed of 2GHz.

Everything on board is fitted with 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD, so performance levels should be quite honorable.

This is the base model, but if you want a little bit more power, there’s the choice of an Intel Core M-5Y70 clocked at 1.1GHz which can be bumped up to a maximum of 2.6GHz in Turbo Mode. The resolution on the worthier model has also been increased at up to 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The model can be fitted with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. In the port/connectivity department, the convertible bundles HDMI, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 33Wh battery.

The keyboard accessory is backlit and bundles an external battery of its own, which will extend the overall life cycle of the hybrid.

The tablet can be used as an AIO system too

On the back of the tablet, there’s a kickstand which sustains the screen in the upright position, giving owners the chance to use the Envy x2 13 as an AIO (all-in-one).

Prices for the new HP convertible climb up from $800 / €641, and if you want one, you can go ahead on to the official HP page and place an order for one. It should ship out to you just in time for the holiday frenzy starts.
