The currently leading PC vendor, Hewlett Packard, has just introduced a new portable computer system, part of the company's TouchSmart series of PCs, coming to offer users a true multi-touch experience. Simply dubbed TouchSmart tx2, the new 12-inch notebook combines AMD's processors with ATI's graphics solutions to provide a high-performance, multi-touch-capable notebook in an attractive mobile design. The company's new portable PC enables multi-touch gestures directly on the system's display, basically eliminating the need for a touchpad or mouse with some applications.
"Breezing through websites and enjoying photos or video at the tap, whisk or flick of a finger is an entirely new way to enjoy digital content on a notebook PC," said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager, Notebook Global Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, HP. "With the introduction of the TouchSmart tx2, HP is providing users an easier, more natural way to interact with their PCs, and furthering touch innovation."
The newly released portable computer system builds on the company's experience with its TouchSmart desktop PC series, from which it has borrowed the multi-touch software, presenting users with a more friendly computing experience. The tx2 is essentially a tablet PC that is based on the company's earlier released Pavilion tx2500z notebook, expanding the base specifications list with the addition of the new multi-touch capabilities. The system can be featured with an AMD Athlon X2 dual-core or AMD Turion X2 dual-core processor, up to 8GB of DDR2 memory, the already mentioned integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics, wireless 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity, and 4-cell, 6-cell or 8-cell battery options.
Some of the multi-touch gestures that have been enabled on the new HP tablet PC allow users to easily interact with media files, such as photos or MP3s. Also, users will be able to zoom in and out on a selected object, by using two of their fingers.
The TouchSmart tx2 is now available for ordering in the United States, with a price tag of $1,149, with users likely to get it before the end of the month.
