Last week, HP announced that they will be discontinuing the webOS phones and the TouchPad, but it seems that the company is still committed to those who already purchased a handset from it.

The development of webOS will continue, HP said at the time, and now we learn that the company has just released a software update for their HP Pre3 smartphone.

It was pushed out only as a minor update for the mobile phone, but it still comes with a series of enhancements that will make users happy.

For starters, we should note that the new software update has brought the OS flavor on HP Pre3 up to version 2.2.0 build 3171.

As for the improvements that have been included with the new software, we can count the fact that the webOS' built-in help function is now usable, at least this is what some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

At the same time, there are those who say that the new software update brought along a series of improvements to the email features on the mobile phone.

However, it appears that there are no official details currently available on the new webOS 2.2.0 build 3171 for the HP Pre3.

What remains to be seen is whether more new software updates will arrive on HP's webOS phones in the near future or not.

The company said that they were committed to continue the development of webOS, and the delivery of software updates for existing devices might be included in their plans as well.

However, since they discontinued plans for webOS handsets, chances are that the support for the already launched devices will be dropped as well in the more of less near future.

For the time being, however, HP Pre3 users do have the possibility to download the said OTA updated on their devices, which should count for something.
