HP may not be part of the first wave of Windows RT tablets, but it will still develop slate-type devices.

In fact, the company has decided to set up a special business division whose purpose will be to create and promote tablets.

The one leading it will be Alberto Torres, according to the folks from The Verge.

For those who don't recognize the name, Torres was the leader of Nokia's MeeGo development team, back when the operating system still had supporters.

The initial offering will launch “soon” but probably not before Microsoft's Surface runs amok with its incredibly low price.

Hopefully, HP Mobility will be able to help establish media tablets as powerful but very affordable consumer electronics.

For those who need context, $199 / 161-199 Euro is the sort of price that only 7-inch slates manage to reach these days, while still offering decent hardware.
