17.3-inch mobile personal computers with the CoolSense technology

HP covered the Ultrabook, the lightweight and the mainstream laptop segments already, but it didn't forget about the high-end market, preparing a couple of Envy 17 models as well.

The Envy 17 and 17 3D, as the two are called, were actually launched alongside the Envy 15, which we already covered here, along with the Pavilion dm4.

As expected, being bigger, the notebooks are also stronger and more expensive.

Also, it is obvious enough that the 17 3D is just the Envy 17 with a 3D display and everything else that comes with it (3D active shutter glasses).

HP was even able to give the Envy 17 displays with a 50% brightness advantage over standard LCDs (Radiance display).

That said, the specifications are partially similar, hardware-wise, with those of the Envy 15.

Intel Core Series CPUs (central processing units) are backed up by AMD Mobility Radeon HD graphics.

The exact components weren't listed, so customers will have to wait until next month (December, 2011) to get a clear picture of what they are about to buy.

HDMI will let people hook up the notebook to larger panels too, for when even 17.3 inches aren't a big enough size.

Furthermore, mSATA SSDs (solid state drives) of 128 GB are supported as an advanced option, along with two HDDs (hard disk drives) of one terabyte each.

Not only that, but HP even threw in the CoolSense technology (a feature that can dynamically change internal fan settings based on performance) and the ImagePad (to smoothen multi-finger touch navigation).

December 7 is when sales start, at $1,249.99 (923.25 Euro) for the 'regular' high-end laptop and $1,599.99 (1,181.76 Euro) for the HP Envy 17 3D.

Not exactly the most accessible of prices, to be sure, but probably there will be people willing to indulge in such expenses during the holiday season.
