The newest press release on HP's part details a range of new mobile workstations, as well a desktops, that carry special optimizations for use with video and image editing software.

HP did say it was keeping the PC business and, sure enough, it has been acting the part.

The new workstations, even if they are restricted to selling through select video editing value-added resellers, promise much.

Both desktop and mobile workstations are included in the new range, even if HP did not go into detail as to their identities.

What HP did make a point of mentioning was that the machines are particularly geared towards projects reliant on stereoscopic 3D editing, Blu-ray support, multicamera editing and even legacy project support for tape-based workflows.

Intel Xeon and Core series processors will handle most of the workloads, while the NVIDIA Quadro graphics will complement them.

The press release also mentioned that HP has the ZR Series Performance Displays and the HP DreamColor LP2480zx ready as well.

These are color-accurate, 20-inch to 27-inch displays that rely on IPS (in-plane switching) panel technology.

Finally, HP worked with Adobe, Avid and Sony Creative Software on this initiative, so their Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Access and Sony Vegas Pro softwares will work particularly well on the computers.

“HP delivers solutions for a full range of video editors – from wedding and event videographers who value streamlined editing solutions, to post-production professionals who need powerful tools to blaze through intricate projects,” said Jeff Wood, vice president, Global Marketing, Commercial Solutions Business Unit, HP.

For people interested in getting acquainted with HP's recent troubles, the company finally said it wasn't leaving the PC market after all and that it wasn't throwing webOS away either, despite rumors to the contrary. To emphasize, reports already say that Ultrabooks are in the pipeline, among other things, like Windows 8 tablets.
