Palo Alto, California-based HP has announced today that it has expanded its portfolio of thin client computer systems, introducing new models specifically designed to help its customers develop and expand their client virtualization platform. HP's new offering includes the new gt7720 performance series, the t5730w and the t5630w, all of which are designed to incorporate Microsoft's Windows Embedded Standard operating system, the next generation of Windows XP Embedded.

“The combination of HP software and thin client hardware ensures the enhanced productivity and superior user experience needed to deploy remote client virtualization to all levels of users across the entire enterprise,” said Jeff Groudan, vice president, Thin Clients and Virtualization Solutions, HP. “As the client virtualization market evolves, HP continues to provide innovative solutions, offering even more options to its customers to provide a robust personalized desktop experience.”

In addition to the introduction of the new computer systems, HP has also made available its Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Enhancements software package and the HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS), a solution that is the fruit of the collaboration between HP and VMWare.

HP's new Performance and Flexible Thin Clients have been designed to provide business users with an access device that can easily be connected to any client virtualization infrastructure. Designed with the Windows Embedded Standard, the new clients boast Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player 11, enabling HP's Thin Clients to run applications locally. The integrated Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1 provides these Thin Clients with a way to connect and take advantage of the security features available in Microsoft's Windows Server 2008.

The combination between HP's new RDP Enhancements, Vmware View and the Windows XP Embedded enables the new Thin Clients to deliver a computing experience that is near that of a fully fledged desktop. As for pricing and availability, HP announced that its latest Thin Clients were due out in May with Windows Embedded Standard, pricing staring at $499, $550 and $799 for the HP t5630w, t5730w and gt7720 HP, respectively.
