Hewlett-Packard has decided it's time for a change and has just announced the introduction of its new additions to the Mini netbook lineup. Sporting the same 10-inch form factor and the all-too-familiar Intel Atom platform, these new netbook, dubbed 1101 and 110XP/Mi, will become available next month for prices that start at a low US$279.Unfortunately, with the new release, HP doesn't appear to show any love to NVIDIA's Ion platform, which enables netbook enthusiasts to boost their system's performance through better graphics and higher memory capacity.

According to available specifications, the new netbooks from HP have been designed on the same Intel Atom platform that has been featured in almost every other similar system on the market. Users will be given a choice of Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N270 or the 1.66GHz N280 processors, coupled with the less impressive Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics. Additional options include a VGA output, 3- or 6-cell batteries, 802.11 b/g wireless connectivity and the usual array of ports.

The Mini 110XP can be equipped with 1GB of RAM and a choice for either a 160GB HDD or a 32GB SSD. To sweeten the offer, HP also tossed in an optional WWAN modem and a Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator, which the company claims to enable the Mini 110 XP to fully support 1080p video. On the other end, the Mi-equipped Mini 110 netbook offers a choice for 250GB of storage and 2GB of memory. HP also announced the Mini 1101, which offers a choice for a Windows XP or a Windows Vista operating system.

As for pricing and availability, the company announced that the Mini 1101 was June 1st-bound starting at US$329, while the 110 would be available later on in black swirl, white swirl and pink chic, for prices starting at US$279 and US$329 for the Mi and Windows XP models, respectively.
