HP announced today that it intended to support the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system on its future smartphone devices, so as to continue its efforts to provide users with the latest wireless technologies designed for the broad mobile professional markets.

The Windows Mobile 6.5 OS on the company's smartphones will be able to deliver leveraged business productivity, as well as enhanced personal messaging and mobile Internet capabilities. This way, mobile customers will be able to communicate a lot easier, while also managing both their businesses and their personal life. The new platform will deliver both leveraged Internet experience and greater personalization capabilities, which are coupled with a new appearance. At the same time, the new operating system will also be able to allow Windows-based smartphones to enter new market segments.

“HP continues to work toward developing smartphones that simplify the mobile experience and meet evolving customer needs,” said Susan Macke, vice president, Marketing, Handheld Global Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, HP. “Working closely with key partners such as Microsoft allows for smooth integration of new technologies for the best possible customer experience.”

“Windows phones enable people to stay on top of their personal and business lives by connecting them to the diverse array of information they need throughout the day,” said Todd Peters, corporate vice president, Mobile Communications Business, at Microsoft Corp. “We’re excited HP will offer phones with Windows Mobile 6.5, which will help people access and personalize services and applications that can make a phone truly individual.”

The Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system comes with a brand new look designed to offer a more interactive touch experience, enabling tapping, flicking and panning on-screen movements. At the same time, the Internet user experience is also leveraged through new browser features and Rich Internet Application (RIA) support which allows users to add dynamic applications on their home screen.
