The fact is, I was really wondering what would happen to Jennifer Lopez's singing career now that she's all Hollywood chic... that is, pregnant and stuff. I mean, we must admit she hasn't had the best of luck in the professional department lately - her latest English language album "Brave" painfully failed to enter the U.S. Top Ten, coming in at #12, selling just 53.000 copies in its first week and then falling out of sight. To add insult to injury, her album lost to a collection of Christmas songs released in October and to Kid rock's album Rock 'N' Roll Jesus. Talk about humiliation.
So, back to my question. What will J. Lo do now that she's pregnant and has to do all the things pregnant celebrities do, such as pose naked for magazines (no, don't be alarmed, she hasn't done that yet) and just parade her expanding belly around until she gives birth? But no, our brave Jennifer (no pun intended) will not sit around and click her heels while what's left of her musical career goes down the drain. No, she will survive - and will release another single and video, called "Hold It, Don't Drop It".
You can watch a one minute preview below - don't laugh, they actually have music video previews these days - and from what I could see, I'm afraid it's not going to be J. Lo's spectacular comeback hit. It's catchy and up-beat, yes, but other than that, the only word that comes to mind is "simple" - and not much more except that. And really, what is with all the overdone eighties' glamor? Sparkly silver dress and nails - I could live with that, but the silver lipstick really gives me nightmares. She looks like she bumped her pouty lips into a freshly painted wall, and I'm being polite with my observations here.
Overall, Jenny really needs to work on upping the "catchy" factor and keeping all that flow of glitzy cosmetics and fabrics under control. It's not that she's lost her entertainment appeal - but somehow, I get the feeling that there's something missing, a certain energy, a sizzling sound that had become trademark of the Latino diva and that seems to have disappeared. And no matter how much I may be looking forward to hearing all the news on the Lopez pregnancy, J.Lo is first of all a singer, and I really feel she needs more good news in that department.
