The website's administrators said there was nothing they could do to stop it

HLTV.org, said to be the world’s biggest Half-Life TV provider, was disrupted a few hours ago by a major distributed denial-of-service attack. The attack appears to have lasted for around 2-3 hours.

“Page down due to ddos, nothing we can do, sorry,” HLTV.org representatives wrote on Twitter after the attack started.

At the time of writing, the HLTV.org website appears to be working properly. It’s uncertain who the attackers are or what has motivated them.

The DDOS against an HLTV website is not surprising. DDOS mitigation provider Prolexic has recently warned that such attacks are becoming increasingly problematic for the gaming community, in some cases gaming servers being abused to amplify them.

For instance, a few days ago, cybercriminals launched a DDOS attack against the United States network of Minecraft Survival Games (MCSG).
