Powered by the Cypress GPU

HIS has already introduced its Radeon HD 5830 graphics adapters, which it outfitted with its special iCooler V cooling module. Deciding that there is no reason for only certain models to make use of this cooling solution, the company has now come forth with two additional graphics adapters, namely a pair of Radeon HD 5870s that also sport this cooler treatment. Aimed at the high-end segment, the two models are largely similar to each other, except for slight variations in clock speeds.

The HIS Radeon HD 5870 iCooler V has the Cypress graphics processing unit (GPU) running at 850MHz and the memory clocked at 4,800 MHz. The HIS Radeon HD 5870 iCooler V Turbo, as its name suggests, is slightly more potent, with GPU and memory clocks of 875MHz and 4,900MHz, respectively.

Other than these two differences, the two have 1,600 stream processors, 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM and a memory interface of 256 bits. Naturally, the graphics adapters support DirectX 11 graphics and all the expected ATI technologies, including ATI CrossFireX and ATI Eyefinity.

As users likely know by now, the ATI Eyefinity technology allows them to set up triple display scenarios thanks to the two adapters' multiple video-output options. In this case, the cards have an HDMI port, a DisplayPort connector and dual-DVI outputs, allowing for maximum resolutions of 3x 2560 x 1600 (Dual dual-link).

In order to operate properly, both the HD 5870 iCooler V and the iCooler V Turbo will require a power supply of at least 500W with two 75W 6-pin PCI express power connectors, or a 600W PSU with four 6-pin connectors for CrossFireX configurations. In addition, HIS is offering the cards either as stand-alone products or accompanied by a game voucher for downloading the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PC game. Already available, the HIS HD 5870 iCooler V is priced at 329 Euro, whereas the HD 5870 iCooler V Turbo carries a price of 344 Euro.
