As some of you will certainly remember, the AMD Radeon HD 6870 card depicted in our live, hands-on photos published on Wednesday was a HIS unit, so it should come as no particular surprise that this company was one of the first to announce its own implementations of the newly-launched 6800 series graphics cards from AMD.

Much in the same way as the reference version from AMD, the HIS Radeon HD 6870 sports a 900 MHz core clock frequency (40nm process), 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 4200 MHz, a 256-bit memory interface and requires a PCI Express x16 (PCI Express 2.1) interface.

Its sibling, the HD 6850, drops the core clock frequency to 775 Mhz, while the memory also records a slight drop in frequency, down to 4000 Mhz.

However, both require a 500W PSU in order to work, so users might have to add that to their purchase lists as well.

After talking a bit about the cards themselves, we'll provide a few info on the features that they enable, starting with a very important one, namely 3D.

So, the HD3D technology (AMD's take on stereoscopic 3D) enabled by these cards transmits two separate images to each of your eyes at the same time at a resolution beyond 1080p.

Supported with HD3D glasses, this technological innovation comes with Stereo 3D gaming, Blu-ray 3D, 3rd Party Stereo 3D middleware software and 6800 Series GPU support.

Moreover, to meet the ever-increasing demand of hi-tech consumers, HD3D technology streams good quality visuals and offers an unrivaled audio experience with compatible displays - HDMI 1.4a Legacy 3D TVs, 3D projectors and 3D Monitors.

Naturally, these cards also pack AMD’s second-generation DirectX 11-capable architecture, as well as AMD EyeSpeed technology.

While HIS has not provided any pricing-related info directly, we're guessing that the 180 US dollars for the Radeon HD 6850 and 240 US dollars for the HD 6870 suggested retail price points will probably be upheld.
