HERE has announced that the Maps application for Windows Phone devices has just received a major update that contains lots of improvements and new features.

The first major improvement confirmed by developers is the enhanced quality of 3D landmarks in some more-established cities. In addition, point address rendering has been included as well in several new countries.

Thanks to the better quality textures to important 3D landmarks, HERE Maps users will get more details on famous locations. The so-called “point address rendering” allows users to see a visual representation of exact addresses in order to find a certain destination much easier.

The “point address rendering” feature has been introduced for additional territories, such as France, South Africa, Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Russian Federation, Ukraine, Baltics, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovakia, Israel, Kazakhstan, and Puerto Rico.

However, one of the main locations to benefit from this update is Mauritius, as HERE has announced that the map is getting a comprehensive overhaul for this particular region. The street coverage and island shapes have been upgraded to show a more detailed coastline and in-depth street network coverage.

You can now download HERE Maps for Windows Phone for free via your Windows Phone handset.
