The old-school rhythm games are no longer supported for current-generation consoles because the High Definition television sets they use tend to introduce a number of latency issues that make the already hard games impossible to play.

Dewi Tanner, who has worked on PaRappa the Rapper at developer NanaOn-Sha, has stated that “While PaRappa is, by modern standards, a tough and unforgiving game, there is another fundamental reason why you may struggle to enjoy old rhythm games these days – your HDTV.”

It’s not clear whether the screens included in the touch-enabled controller for the new Wii U will allow gamers to see revivals of classic titles in the rhythm genre.

The Nintendo Wii U home consoles will be launched before the end of the year for an undisclosed price and the company behind it has already indicated that it might revive old titles in order to draw a solid audience soon after launch.
