The HDMI interface is basically a default element of PCs and displays nowadays, so HDMI Licensing, LLC decided to create the HDMI Forum, Inc. organization, to broaden industry participation.
The purpose of HDMI Forum, Inc. is to take up the task of developing the HDMI specification further.
It is also meant to get more IT players interested in participating in the development process, as the Forum is open to companies that want to become members.
This should both make sure that the technology advanced quickly and that there will not be any interoperability limitations.
HMDI Licensing, LLC also took the time, in its press release, to assure current HDMI 1.4 adopters that they won't see their business activities disrupted by the new arrangement.
Future versions of the specifications will, after all, be possible to license under a model similar to the one currently used.
This is fortunate, since the existing model implies low costs when accessing essential intellectual property.
“With over 1,100 adopters of the technology, and over 2 billion HDMI-enabled products shipped since launching the standard in 2003, the HDMI Founders strongly believe that the next leap in growth will come with broader industry participation,” said Steve Venuti, president of HDMI Licensing, LLC.
“Due to the overwhelming success of the HDMI Specification and the increased adoption of the standard in a wide variety of applications and industries, the HDMI Founders decided to establish the HDMI Forum, a new organization where interested companies can become an integral part of the development process.”
Organizations interested in joining the HDMI Forum can go over to the website that the parent group has already set up
here.
All information on membership fees and benefits is available there, along with downloadable participation agreements. Needless to say, the same details can be found on
HDMI.org as well.
