Pentax has been rumored for a while to release a new teleconverter that will increase your lens’ focal length by 1.4x, offering extra reach at the price of one stop of light and a slight loss in image quality.

According to a recent post on PentaxForums, a user called Pentaxoe has revealed that the rumored HD Pentax-DA 1.4x AW Rear Converter will be announced soon.

“Talked to a Pentax source these days. Looks like a (the) ‘HD DA 1.4x AW AF Rear Converter’ is on it's [sic] way. It seems to be more than a rumor. He showed me a picture of the new converter. It has the new HD design. I have no further specs or release date though,” says Pentaxoe.

The converter allows AF lenses to be used at their full potential, providing the aperture and lens information to the camera and sparing you the trouble of manually configuring them. In addition to that, it supports both SDM/DC autofocus and traditional screwdrive AF, and comes with Pentax's latest HD coating for an improved image quality.

For the moment, there's no other information regarding its price and availability.
