HCL Announces Three New Affordable ICS-Based Tablets in India

Regional manufacturer HCL Infosystems has just announced the upcoming availability of two unveiled three new tablets aimed at youngsters, the ME Tab U1 and the HCL MyEdu Tab, which comes in two models.

The cheapest of the three, ME Tab U1 is powered by Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a small 7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 800 x 480 pixels resolution.

The slate is aimed as both Indian consumers and students, as the ME Tab U1 provides personalized learning content for the latter.

HCL ME Tab U1 is equipped with a 1 GHz single core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

There’s also a front facing VGA camera for video calls, a 3600 mAh Li-Ion battery, as well as 3G and Wi-Fi support. The ME Tab U1 will be available beginning this month, for only Rs 7,999 (155 USD or 120 EUR).

It is also worth mentioning that HCL ME Tab U1 will come pre-loaded with free content worth Rs 3,000 (60 USD or 45 ERU) and bundled offers.

The second tablet announced by HCL is called MyEduTab and targets Indian educational institutions, such as schools and colleges.

This tablet will be the perfect tool for students, teachers and parents to connect, collaborate and share information, as well as content, over the cloud.

It will come in two versions. MyEduTab K12 will be available this month for Rs. 11,499 (225 USD or 170 EUR), which includes the price of the device, content and a memory card.

The second model, MyEduTab Higher Education (HE), will hit shelves for Rs. 9, 999 (195 USD or 145 EUR).

Keep in mind that both MyEduTab tablets will have the same specs sheet as the ME Tab U1, and they will be powered by Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich platform.
