14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft decided to turn on Flash by default in Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 and Windows RT this week, launching instead a dedicated black list comprising websites that aren’t allowed to run on these two platforms.
Ed Bott of ZDNet analyzed this new Internet Explorer 10 Compatibility View list to look for the 4 percent of Flash websites that are reportedly blocked on Windows 8 and Windows RT.
While it’s pretty surprising that the black list only hides a dozen of websites, it also restricts access to some very popular pages, including HBO.com and Twit.tv for Windows RT tablets.
Another interesting thing is that most of the websites included in this compatibility view list are only blocked on ARM devices, so the majority of them should actually work on x86 and x64 versions of Windows 8.
Whenever you try to load one of the blocked websites, you shall see an error saying “Sorry, you must have the Flash Player installed to access the website.” As usual, it’s most likely just a matter of time before a workaround is found.
