If you occasionally indulge in a spot of celebrity gossip, you probably know that Justin Theroux has been spending a lot of time apart from fiancée Jennifer Aniston because he’s working on a new project in New York. It’s called “The Leftovers” and it has just gotten its first teaser trailer.

You will find it embedded below.

“Revolves around the Rapture and follows a group of people who are left behind in the suburban community of Mapleton. They must begin to rebuild their lives after the sudden and mysterious disappearance of more than 100 people,” a brief synopsis of the series says.

Theroux plays a police officer, but the first teaser doesn’t show that – as neither does it show anything mentioned in the synopsis. It does, however, refer to a strange phenomenon sweeping the world, with people disappearing “like that” in numbers that should ring an alarm.

What recommends “The Leftovers,” besides the fact that it’s made by HBO (can you remember the last time HBO disappointed you?) and that it stars Theroux, is having Damon Lindelof as screenwriter. Lindelof is the same guy who brought us “Lost” and “Prometheus” and, even if there are some objections that can be raised with both, there’s no denying the man’s skill.

At the moment, there are conflicting reports about the premiere date of “The Leftovers,” with the promo saying it’s coming “soon,” IMDB listing it as “2013,” and some e-zines pinning it for June 2014.
