HBO, one of the most important premium cable channels, announces that it is ready to launch its HBO GO application on both the PlayStation 3 and the PS4 home consoles from Sony.

It’s unclear why the older device is getting access to the service first, but once it is live, it will allow users to watch their favorite television shows, movies and sporting events.

No official dates have been announced for launch.

Phil Rosenberg, a senior vice president of business development at Sony Computer Entertainment of America, writes on the official PS Blog that, “With the HBO GO app on your PlayStation system and an HBO subscription via your cable or satellite provider, you’ll have unlimited, on-demand access to your favorite HBO shows, like Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and True Detective.”

Since the PlayStation 4 was announced, Sony has insisted that it will act as an entertainment hub for the user, something that the Xbox One is also aiming to do.
