14 DAY TRIAL // One of the most recent reports about the reason Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin decided to end their 11-year marriage claims that the split was caused by her massive ego and the fact that she couldn’t stand to have people not do as she told them. The latest builds on this and adds an almost-comic side to the story.
Gwyneth is said to have been the one who called all the shots in her marriage, starting from their two kids’ diet and the permanent ban on treats, including ice cream, to Chris’ diet and whether an open marriage would be best for them as a couple. Admittedly, she deemed the idea was good for her but bad for him, so she was the only one “allowed” to sleep with other people.
Her ego could easily rival Kanye West’s, and anyone who knows anything about the rapper realizes that this is saying a lot. Insiders reveal for Radar Online that, not long ago, Gwyneth actually held a private “Goop Film Festival” which played only her movies because she’s desperate to relive her glory days.
As per the same report, her friends in attendance weren’t exactly thrilled by having to endure this many-hour ordeal, which took place at her mansion in the Hamptons.
“After the massive success of Iron Man 3, Gwyneth started hosting regular screenings of some of her old ‘90s hits, including Seven, Sliding Doors and Shakespeare in Love,” says a spy. No “Great Expectations” on the list, we’re almost disappointed.
After the viewing, which, we believe, lasted several hours too much, Gwyneth opened a debate on “what work[ed] about the movies,” presumably hoping that this would make them feel obliged to praise her work even more than they had already done out of politeness.
All the Oscar-winner managed to do was to embarrass herself, the unnamed insider continues. Forget about how you must always be humble in this industry; Gwyneth was simply overkill.
“Gwyneth is really just trying to re-live her glory days. The truth is, if you look at her schedule, she’s just not a full-time actor anymore, but she still wants to be treated like a screen legend. She’s been trotting out the old movies for her friends, but most of them would rather watch paint dry. It was pretty embarrassing and interestingly Chris never hung around to watch,” the tipster explains.
Chris and Gwyneth have announced their separation just recently, after 11 years as husband and wife. No word yet on whether either has filed for divorce, but her latest post on social media includes a photo of her with her wedding ring still on.
