Gwyneth Paltrow has always been very lean and generally in quite extraordinary shape, except for those times when she interrupted her regular workouts to gain some weight for a movie role. For her part in “Iron Man 2,” she had to do the contrary actually, she says in a recent interview with Us Magazine: gain a few pounds of muscle.

As we also noted on a previous occasion, Paltrow is not the only star to have had to do something to change their appearance for the second installment of the franchise. A while back, Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow, was saying she had to lose some weight to fit into the lycra catsuit, which proved to be a bigger challenge than she anticipated. Gwyneth, on the other hand, had to gain more weight, albeit in muscle mass.

“Gwyneth Paltrow worked hard for her buff Iron Man 2 body. Her trainer put her on a super strict workout plan for the action flick (out May 7), Paltrow, 37, told Us Magazine at the Hollywood premiere Wednesday night. ‘My trainer, Tracy Anderson, basically, like, pummeled me into submission and made me do all kinds of crazy things. She really changed my body for this movie,’ Paltrow – who gained 10 pounds of muscle for the role – said of her workouts, which included high-intensity dance aerobics,” Us Magazine writes.

“She’s since scaled back her gym routine. ‘If I’m home with my kids, I still like to do it [workout] every day, but I don’t go as crazy. I will do cardio one day and legs another day,’ she told Us,” the same publication goes on to inform. Of course, Gwyneth rarely has to worry about her figure, having recently said that she can basically eat anything she wants as long as she makes sure she gets enough exercise, because, in her case, it doesn’t “go straight to the thighs,” as word has it.

On the same occasion, the actress also admitted to Us to looking forward to a summer of doing nothing and just spending time with her family. In a previous interview, she said that she would not rule out the possibility of having another child altogether, though neither she nor husband Chris Martin had any plans in this sense for the time being.
