Gwyneth Paltrow is in the latest issue of Elle magazine, to promote the star-studded thriller “Contagion” and her various other projects. Among many things, she also opens up about her marriage to Chris Martin, admitting that it’s not always as rosy as she’d like it to be.

Paltrow and the Coldplay frontman have one of the most private marriages in showbiz. They’re so secretive about their family life and their relationship that they rarely, if ever, walk any red carpets together as a couple.

This is precisely what makes this Elle piece all the more interesting, as it focuses on a side of Gwyneth’s life that her fans don’t have access to almost at all.

“Sometimes it’s hard being with someone for a long time. We go through periods that aren’t all rosy,” the Oscar-winning actress says of the false rumors that she and Martin split.

“I always say, life is long and you never know what’s going to happen. If, God forbid, we were ever not to be together, I respect him so much as the father of my children. Like, I made such a good choice,” she adds.

“He’s such a good dad. You can never be relaxed or smug and think, I’ve got this thing. That’s also part of it – keeping yourself on your toes. I’m not going to take this for granted,” Gwyneth further says of making it work.

She seems to live her entire life by the motto that you never know what life will throw at you next. Speaking of her career in music (she’s believed to be recording a debut album as we speak), the actress says good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z pushed her to do it.

Of course, Gwyneth has already proved she can sing with her many appearances on “Glee” and the countless live performance she’s given ever since. A music album, though, is an entirely different thing – and Paltrow is the first to admit the possibility of failure.

“Beyonce and Jay — they think that I should just go do it by myself. That I should go… in a studio and see what happens. And if it’s good, do it. And if it’s not, don’t. So that’s probably what I’ll do,” she says.
