Gwen Stefani just turned 40 a few days ago. Not that age has any saying in terms of looking good anymore, but the singer is also the mother of two – still, her figure is as slim and her abs just as well-defined as they were the first time she was touring with No Doubt, when she first broke on the scene. It’s not easy to look this good and Gwen is the first to admit it, saying she works very hard for it.

When she’s not spending time with her adorable children and loving husband, or not making music (either for her solo releases or for those with No Doubt), Gwen Stefani can be found at the gym. She never takes a break from it, not even when she’s on tour, which is actually when she strains more because she has to work on her endurance and strength to be able to pull it through. While on tour, Stefani reportedly travels with two personal trainers so that she makes sure she never slacks on the exercise.

“I have to work very hard to look as good as I do.” Gwen Stefani recently said. However, since working out alone rarely leads to significant weight loss if it isn’t accompanied by a good, healthy diet as well, the singer too keeps to a very simple rule, that of the balance between calorie intake and the calories burned while exercising. “It’s simple math: You put this much food in your body, you burn that much working out.” she added.

Gwen is not alone in paying so much attention and dedicating plenty of her time to working out. Madonna is perhaps the best example in this sense, being well known for her almost unbelievable passion for all things healthy, including strenuous workouts that would put even a strong man to shame. Just recently, the 51-year-old performer was telling Ryan Seacrest on his radio show that, at her age and given her activity, she simply couldn’t afford not to look good, which meant she had to work very, very hard for it.

“I said to her, ‘I’m going to be bringing crazy equipment into your house, and you can’t work with anyone else.’ So she dropped all her other training and committed to me. She doesn’t tell me what she wants to achieve with her body – I tell her. She trusts me, so she does it.” Tracy Anderson, Madonna’s personal trainer, was saying earlier this year about the singer’s determination to do whatever it took to stay in shape.
