Guy Ritchie was invited to take part in the French TV show Monde En Parle (Everybody's Talking About It) on Sunday, four days after the director and his wife attended the Paris premiere of his latest film Revolver.
When asked Madonna's real name, the 37-year-old filmmaker stammered, "Er... er." After a fellow guest whispered the answer: "Louise Ciccone", Ritchie replied, "Yes. Louise Ciccone."
The director prompted a wrong answer as well when he declared his wife wore a dress by French designer Hutchins at their December 2000 wedding, when in fact it was made by Stella McCartney.
"You're going to get me in a whole lot of trouble" Ritchie told show host Thierry Ardisson.
Guy Ritchie doesn't want to upset his wife even more, as he had recently left Kabbalah, which seems to be the most important thing in Madonna's life.
The Diva has defended his latest movie, which features Statham as a criminal who revives a feud with a gangland boss. It also stars Ray Liotta and Andre 3000 of hip-hop group OutKast.
The movie was called "tedious" and "convoluted" by Variety, while the Hollywood Reporter criticized its "pretentious style".
