DuckDuckGo, one of the few alternative search engines out there, has announced that it's seen its biggest day yet in terms of direct traffic. In total, it saw 731,472 queries on January 24th, beating the record set the day earlier.

These past couple of days are the only ones with more than 700,000 direct queries. Traffic in January has been significantly higher than in previous months, with only one day falling (barely) below 400,000 queries, the first day of the year.

There were 564,493 direct queries on average on any given  day in January, compared to 455,815 per day in the previous month. The reason for the increase in traffic, especially in the past few days is up for speculation.

That being said, there were more than 18.2 billion queries done on the top five search engines in the US alone in December. AOL saw 287 million queries in December in the US, DuckDuckGo had 14 million globally in the same period.

It looks like DuckDuck go has about .2% of the search market - that is generous. This is a non-story.

Google also had only .2 percent of the search market at one point.
