Following the tremendous success of
Guitar Hero II, Activision announced a sequel for the most rockin' game in the world. Guitar Hero 80s Edition will once again be played on the PS2 if you'll ever be able to quit playing the Xbox 360 version of
Guitar Hero II. The
sequel features tons of rock tunes from the 80s, as you might have already realized from its name and you'll hear Van Halen, Prince or Bon Jovi singing the good old ballads in the new title. The big question is "When?", but the answer is simple: June 13 and the 80s Edition will cost about 39.99$. Don't expect a strict deadline since we've seen cases of famous games postponed a couple of times (does S.T.A.L.K.E.R ring a bell?).
This is not the average Guitar Hero game, as it will feature 15 different versions of Van Halen's Jump and many of the tunes that rocked our childhood and our parents' youth. Indie, hippie, grunge, they've got it and while some are eagerly waiting for a Guitar Hero: Metal Edition packed with the likes of Slayer and Pantera, the developers seem to be keener on golden oldies. All of you Xbox 360 owners, don't worry, you'll get a copy of the 80s Edition, but the Xbox version will appear a tad later than the PS2 one.
One shouldn't listen to the rumors, but while we're getting excited about the new title, the Neversoft division from Activision is already working on
Guitar Hero III. The only question that remains is how will the new guitar joystick look like? We suggest an old-school approach with an electric guitar that looks just like a classic one, plus a few metallic finishing touches.
