Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers is part of the Guilty Gear franchise, and grants all 21 fighting characters to the previous games. Each one is a loyal copy of the original, with their specific attacks and special moves, such as the Dust Attack and Roman Cancel among others.
The title was published by the Majesco Entertainment Company and developed by Arc System Works Co., Ltd. It was released for the Nintendo DS on April 23, 2006 and has a PEGI rating of 12. The gameplay is similar to that of the Super Smash Bros., with vertical scrolling and various item power-ups being thrown randomly onto the screen during a match. It has six game modes, including story, arcade, one-on-one and a multi-player against up to four other opponents via the Wi-Fi wireless system, in a free-for-all match. Each level is 'covered' in all sorts of traps and hazards.
The DS also gives players the chance to modify Robo-Ky with the help of a factory, additional special moves being up for unlocking upon the completion of certain mini games such as arm wrestling, billiards and sword master, where the player uses the stylus to slice up falling bales of hay before hitting the ground.
Overall, the title proved to be an unfortunate marriage of the Guilty-Gear universe and the DS. For a fighting game, it lacks the appropriate action and, for an action-adventure, it lacks the proper implementation. If you're a fan of Guilty Gear, then you'll find several nostalgic elements, and enjoy the title, but you might also find it to be a cheap remake.
