Guillermo Del Toro, the veteran movie industry player who is known for his work as director on Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy franchise and for producing other projects, has offered more detail about a future video game project that he is creating in collaboration with publisher THQ, saying that he expects to make an official announcement in the coming days.

In a larger interview with MTV News Guillermo Del Toro, who is best known for creating complex layered movie experiences, has said that his gaming project can be classified as “horror... but it's a very different type of horror game. It's not survival horror. It's truly a strange, geeky mix. It's a Lovecraftian thing, let's leave it at that.”

He also talked about the resources needed to create such a gaming experience, saying that the “best case scenario” was to get it done by 2013 while also addressing the lack of an official announcement from publisher THQ by saying, “everything will come together in the next few days and we can formally announce it and so forth.”

Del Toro also talked about his gaming habits and how they influenced his gaming creation efforts mentioning another title he could work on, called Sundown, which is “eerily similar to Left 4 Dead, which I adore and am addicted to, and in our household is considered a family game.”

THQ commented that it does not yet a formal announcement to make but that del Toro was one of the creators that the company was interesting to work with.

For quite some time Hollywood tried to adapt video game storylines and characters for use in movies, with pretty mixed results while the impact of games based on movies being similarly limited.

Del Toro could create interesting titles simply because he seems to understand the differences between the two mediums and can exploit the strengths of both.
