Guild Wars Prophecies started it all. During the two years since the campaign was released, the game's developer, ArenaNet and publisher NCsoft, launched two additional stand-alone games: Guild Wars Factions and Guild Wars Nightfall, thus selling 3.5 million copies of the Guild Wars series, making it one of the most successful online RPGs ever created.

The fact that you can play the game without actually having to subscribe, might have something to do with those figures, but it's not only that. Much of the success of Guild Wars can also be attributed to the fact that it provides robust content, a compelling story, breathtaking art, exciting game mechanics, and a long history of significant game improvements and updates.

Thus, devoted and loyal player base of Guild Wars players will be celebrating the franchise's two-year anniversary this weekend, having a lot to look forward to: variety of in-game activities including fireworks, games and special prizes being awarded brand new birthday mini-pets, for each character when they reach the two-year milestone.

Mike O'Brien, one of the founders of ArenaNet said: "In just two years, we've made three games and have reached millions of players around the world. We have a lot to celebrate on our second anniversary and we will endeavor to continue to deliver great, free content to our fans into the foreseeable future."

The party will host characters from all three campaigns from April 27 to April 29. And don't forget that ArenaNet and Ncsoft are prepping the release of their first expansion pack for Guild Wars: "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" sometime during Q3 2007, also announcing the start of the development for Guild Wars 2, scheduled for a second half 2008 release.
