14 DAY TRIAL // Video game developer ArenaNet is announcing that it is planning to add a new Map Bonuses system in the Heart of Thorns expansion for Guild Wars 2 in order to make it easier for players to get access to the crafting materials they need to put together a legendary weapon for their characters.
The company is introducing a new Mastery track which can be used to unlock precursor crafting, with the first three tiers dedicated to getting a special item that can be used to then create a very powerful item.
Initially, gamers will have to prove their worth by dealing with challenges in the world of Guild Wars 2 in order to get one weapon that shows the potential of its final form but needs more work before it can be used.
Then, players will need to do research, deal with experts and improve their ability to actually craft items, and only then will they be able to actually undertake tasks that will allow them to get the precursor.
ArenaNet adds, "Once you have your completed precursor, you are free to begin the process of turning it into a legendary weapon. It’s a long process of gathering the required materials to craft gifts that will eventually be given to Zommoros—the djinn at the heart of the Mystic Forge—who in return gifts you with your powerful legendary weapon."
The Map Bonus system means that each region in Guild Wars 2 will have an associated set of rewards that will rotate at specific intervals.
The player experience will be streamlined in Heart of Thorns
The development team is trying to make sure that players will be able to evaluate which materials they have and what else they need and then play on the maps where they have a chance to get access to them.
Once they have everything they need, players will be able to create a powerful legendary weapon with ArenaNet saying that it will offer more details on them in the coming weeks.
Only a handful will be introduced in Heart of Thorns and more will be part of future Guild Wars 2 updates.
All of the legendary weapons will be untradeable and their precursors will share the same status to make them unique for gamers.
