14 DAY TRIAL // After spending a long time in development and going through a variety of beta tests in recent months, Guild Wars 2 has finally received a release date of August 28.
Guild Wars 2 is set to revitalize the MMORPG scene by offering an online experience that doesn’t require players to pay a monthly fee or interact with others unless they want to.
After being announced back in 2007, Guild Wars 2 is finally nearing completion, as developer ArenaNet has now confirmed a final release date for the online game: August 28.
"We're offering gamers an experience that delivers on the promise of online gaming with a truly social experience in an immense, shared world," said ArenaNet President and Co-Founder Mike O'Brien.
"After five years of creation, development, and polish, announcing the launch date of Guild Wars 2 is a huge milestone for us, but the thing we're most looking forward to is seeing gamers from all over the globe explore this world and begin creating their own stories."
O’Brien once again highlighted the core principles of Guild Wars 2, which are focused on creating "a living breathing online world that challenges convention, that’s designed for fun instead of grind, and that brings social interaction to a new level in an online world."
Thanks to the recent beta tests run by the company, as well as the stress tests to ensure that servers handled the number of players, Guild Wars 2 has been improved upon extensively, according to O’Brien.
"All along you’ve been there for us, cheering us on, supporting us when we needed it, testing early versions of the game, and above all, giving us your honest feedback every step of the way. Guild Wars 2 is a better game for all of the work that our community has put in."
One last beta weekend event will be run between July 20 and July 22. Until then, the studio will spend the remaining time optimizing, polishing, and balancing the game in order to ensure a smooth launch.
