This is just like in that tale of the little boy who cried wolf so many times that, when the wolf really showed up, no one believed him anymore. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody that Axl Rose and his reformed Guns N'Roses have delayed (once again!) the release of their first album, 'Chinese Democracy'.
It all started with Axl's first appearance in years, at the MTV awards, when he let it slip that all the time he spent out of the spotlight was entirely dedicated to writing and recording for a new album, whose name he made public with the utmost pride: 'Chinese Democracy'.
As the fans were appeased with the announcement, the band carried on doing whatever they did before. Later, the GNR went on an international tour and another announcement said that the release date had been pushed back to an unspecified one, 'at the end of the year [2006]'. December came (and almost went) without any album and, soon enough, fans began to wonder if 'Chinese Democracy' would ever come or if it was just a 'little' white lie, meant to boost ticket sales for the tour.
Axl came out of hiding once again, saying the album did not come out because he and the boys have been having problems with manager Merk Mercuriadis, for which he was later fired. He, in his turn, fought back, claiming the album did not happen not because he was fired but because the once fabulous rocker no longer had what it took to finish it.
It's an entire saga, which swallowed the last 10 years of Axl and his fans' lives and more than $13 million out of his banking account. Now, in the latest (but not last, we are sure) 'Chinese Democracy' episode, Rose comes up front and sets another date of release.
'To say the making of this album has been an unbearably long and incomprehensible journey would be an understatement. Overcoming the endless and seemingly insanity of the obstacles faced by all involved, not withstanding the emotional challenges endured by everyone - the fans, the band, our road crew and business team - has at many times seemed like a bad dream in which one wakes up only to find they are still in the nightmare.', the rocker wrote on the band's official website.
He then went on to cite various 'complications' for not meeting the first deadlines and gave as a tentative release date March 2007. Although many of the GNR fans stuck by the band all this time, it is unclear now what will happen if, let's say, March comes and there's no new album in stores.
