XDarkSton3x, a member of the MetalSoft hacker collective, managed to break into the systems of the Guatemalan Congress, leaking tons of sensitive information.

The main purpose of the attack was to make governments worldwide care more about security than money, reports Cyberwarnews.

Names, usernames, email addresses, password hashes and job titles, including the ones belonging to the administrators of Congreso.gob.gt were published online.

Fortunately, the passwords aren’t in clear text, but that doesn’t make the situation much better. The fact of the matter remains that each day governments prove they haven’t got the slightest knowledge or desire to enhance the security measures that should safeguard their digital assets.

“Rather than threatening people who only seek knowledge, you should spend more time putting more security in your web site. The money you invest hiring idiots who are looking for those responsible [which I do not think they'll achieve] should be invested in hiring a company to help...” reveals a translation of their statement.
