GrubHub, the company that owns one of the most popular web and mobile services that connects people to restaurants, allowing them to order food while on the go, has just announced the update of its Android application.

In addition to its revamped interface, GrubHub Android app has been fully integrated with Google's system search via the quick search box.

Currently, the application allows people to order food while on the go from over 5,000 restaurants in 13 cities, but the developer is expected to add more cities in the near future. GrubHub Android 5.0 allows customers to use their phone’s GPS capabilities to scan their current location for all the restaurants delivering to exactly where they are.

Another new feature introduced with the latest version of the app, allows users to narrow their search by cuisine or search for a specific restaurant or menu item.

Not too long ago, finding and ordering anything more exotic than pizza or Chinese was difficult, to say the least. It’s a lot easier these days thanks to more efficient mobile food apps. Between GrubHub’s new Android app and our iPhone app, diners can easily order food from home, work or whatever local watering hole they are at,” said Mike Evans, GrubHub co-founder and COO.

Other new features and improvements offered by GrubHub Android 5.0 include:

- Saved credit cards and past orders; - Speedy reordering (seriously, just a couple of taps); - Improved performance (bugs have been zapped, speed has been increased); - Extended support for tablet devices.

We project orders through the GrubHub apps to comprise 25 percent of our sales by the end of 2011. And with Android handsets making up the fastest growing segment of the smartphone market, we knew we had to deliver an amazing experience through this app to reach that goal,” concluded Evans.

GrubHub Android 5.0 is available as a free download from Android Market and is compatible with all devices running Android 1.5 or higher.
