Most of us have got used to seeing 3D in HDTVs, camcorders or photo cameras, but a Swedish company by the name of Rotundus, thought that it would be cool to add 3D capabilities to its GroundBot surveillance robot.

Despite is comapct case measuring just 60cm (23.6in) in diameter, the GroundBot is a fully fledged surveillance bot with the ability to roll through mud, sand, snow, or even float on water if the need arises.

At all this time the GroundBot uses a pair of of cameras to deliver its remote operator with a live video feed of the objects is spies on, in full stereoscopic 3D of course.

As gizmag explains, the robot can be controlled either by a human operator or it can run using its own GPS-based system and an programmed autonomous mode, in which the GroundBot takes snapshots of the images it sees.

Users can opt from equipping the robot with all sort of cameras, including wide-angled and night vision camcorders, which add the the built-in microphone and loudspeakers as well as to the radioactivity, gas, humidity, fire, heat, smoke, biological material, explosives, or narcotics sensors.

The GroundBot can move around at a top speed of 10 km/h (6 mph), and is virtually inaudible, but so far there's no chance of finding this robot in retail. That's sad if you ask me.
