Sharkear offers lower RAM usage and global hotkeys when using Grooveshark

Sharkear (freebie) is a simple program that gives Grooveshark users the possibility to set up global hotkeys for playback controls. It basically encases the Grooveshark window in a standalone frame, at the same time populating it with some extra settings.

Nothing is trimmed off the Grooveshark service, so advertisements are still on, but you benefit from global shortcuts for actions such as play/pause, volume up/down, next/previous song or seek forward/back.

The keyword for the triggers is “global”, which means that the actions are carried out regardless of the active application on your screen.

Additional benefits of the app include lower RAM usage and automatic checking for updates. As far as RAM usage is concerned, we noticed that Sharkear indeed requires lees resources compared to what a regular web browser sucks up for the same activity.
